O'Neill Music and Performing Arts Parents Association
O.M.P.A.P.A. is a parent volunteer group whose mission is to support the Music Department and teachers and the Music and Performing Arts programmes and students.
Although we are involved in fundraising, our principle function is to provide support to the Music Department and the Music and Performing Arts Programmes at the school. All of our activities and fundraising efforts are directed to this end.
As a parent of a student involved in one of these programmes, you are automatically a member of this association and you are encouraged to participate in the advancement of these programmes at O’Neill. As a member of this association, you are encouraged to attend any and all meetings. Our meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month and tend to be a social time as well as a time to accomplish many projects to enhance P.A. programmes and our children’s education. There are also many ways you could help out without having to attend meetings, for example there are numerous fundraising committees running throughout the year like Motor City Jazz.
Parents and Students come into contact with us through several fundraisers which we sponsor each year. Participation in these fundraising events helps the students fund their Music trips and other related activities. Money earned directly through O.M.P.A.P.A. is used to purchase instruments and equipment which otherwise would be unavailable through standard budget allocations. Funds are also used to offset some of the more expensive activities when possible. Allocation of these funds is directed by the teaching staff.
O.M.P.A.P.A. meetings are generally held the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00PM in the Staff Meeting Room on the 2nd floor.
At minimum, the O.M.P.A.P.A. executive committee consists of the following positions:
The Chair shall:
- Chair all meetings
- Ensure that all officers perform their respective duties
- Prepare the agenda for all meetings
- Be an ad hoc member of all committees
The Treasurer shall:
- Keep books showing receipts and expenditures
- Present financial reports to the association at each meeting
The Secretary shall:
- Maintain full and accurate account of all Association and Executive meetings and distribute minutes to respective members.
The Communications Officer shall:
File a copy of all communications forwarded or received and send any correspondence as directed by the Executive.
Maintain a yearly membership list
Forward communication to all members as required
