The DDSB Education Centre will host an engaging group of speakers to explore topics of women's empowerment through activities, presentations, and discussion. The "Owning Your Path" Women's Empowerment Conference will feature a keynote address from Shawnee Talbot, a singer/songwriter from Six Nations of the Grand River, who will perform three of her punchy rock/soul songs. Talbot is also an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ equality, and is a strong proponent of justice for youth and women in Indigenous communities.
Students will select sessions to attend from the areas of Self-Expression, Entrepreneurship, and Well-Being. Presenters will cover a variety of topics including songwriting, math hacks, career and life planning and positive body image. Students will also participate in fun activities like Zumba, a collective art project and parasport volleyball and bocce ball. This event promises to have something for everyone. We look forward to having you join us.
