We are strongly committed to supporting our incredible students with special needs. We believe that diversity is our strength and that all students represent the future of our shared community.
Our commitment begins with setting high expectations and providing support for our students and staff to reach their potential each school year. We achieve this, with you as our partners, in safe, welcoming and inclusive learning spaces which promote well-being for all.
It is essential that students feel a sense of belonging. Our foundation is in a range of special education programs and services which are tailored to support the growth and success of each individual student.
Announced changes to Provincial programs, including the Ontario Autism Program, are deeply concerning for many families in the Durham Region. We acknowledge that these changes present challenges for families and many of our community partners.
As a Board committed to inclusion, we are currently working to determine the full impact of the recent changes to the Ontario Autism Program. This is necessary in order to meet the needs of Durham DSB students with special education needs, including those with Autism, who will be registering and/or increasing time in classroom based learning. These considerations are taking place at a system level and concurrently in each school. We will continue to update you as we receive information.
Most important to each family is the child(ren) you share with us. Our school teams (Classroom Educators, Special Education Resource Teachers and Administrators) form the core of your child(ren)'s educational team. Our Inclusive Student Services Team works closely with you and the school team in planning for your child's success and well-being.
We want to thank our amazing Administrators, Teachers, EAs, ECEs who support our students every day.
Whether your child already attends a Durham DSB school or your family is newly registered to join us, we appreciate and welcome partnership with you as we plan transitions and programs together.
