The Durham District School Board (DDSB) last night appointed Uxbridge resident Gordon Baxter to fill the vacancy in Uxbridge and Brock Townships created by the recent passing of Trustee Elinor Hansen. Following Trustee Hansen's passing, the Board chose to appoint her successor, rather than spend approximately $40,000 on a by-election.
"Gord brings to our Board a wealth of experience in public education. He served for many years as the voluntary chairperson on both the Uxbridge Public School and Uxbridge Secondary School community councils," outlined Board Chairperson Michael Barrett.
Mr. Baxter has been a resident of Uxbridge for nearly forty years and it is where all of his family have attended school. He served as the DDSB Uxbridge/Brock School Trustee from 2003 to 2006 and was the runner-up for the Uxbridge/Brock trustee position in the 2014 municipal election.
He is a health and safety inspector/manager with the Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL). He is actively involved with regulatory review committees and ensures that acts and regulations for the MOL are enforced.
