The Durham District School Board (DDSB) invites applications from qualified candidates for the above position, which
will begin as soon as possible following appointment by the Board of Trustees.
The Superintendent of Education/Family of Schools leads and supports administrative staff within schools in the
areas of student achievement, Equity, staffing, communication, organization, professional development and capacity
building, climate and direction setting, and parent-student-teacher-Trustee concerns. Experience leading teams and
managing system level change initiatives are assets. The Superintendent will also be assigned a portfolio by the Director of Education.
The Superintendent of Education/Family of Schools is responsible for working with a committed team of educational
leaders within this school district of 70,000 students, 7,300 plus staff, and 132 schools and learning centres. As part of
the senior administrative team, the successful candidate will provide direction, monitor, guide and implement processes and structures that will enable our Board to meet its goals as outlined in Ignite Learning, the multi-year plan.
QUALIFICATIONS: All candidates must hold Ontario Supervisory Officer qualifications or be eligible for direct entry
into a Supervisory Officer program.
The successful candidate will display the following characteristics: superior interpersonal, communication, teambuilding and management skills, systems thinking, proven track record in community engagement, strong evidence of student achievement and system success. Secondary and elementary school leadership, demonstrated change management skill set, and equity and technology experience are assets.
The above criteria will be used by the selection team to develop a short list of candidates to be interviewed.
